The biggest hair trends for 2021

THE start of a new decade comes with exciting new hair trends with vibrant colour, shaggy cuts, bold accessories and daisy fringes just some of the hair trends 2021 has in store for your hair.

Hair care is also taking centre stage, with luxurious leave-in treatments providing the perfect Sunday night rituals.

Head of Education at Ella & Jade Hair, William Webb said each new season brings with it new trends, and 2021 won’t disappoint.

“The year 2020 gave us plenty of time to dream about our next hair colour or cut, and 2021 is now the time to take the plunge and do it,” William said.

Lived-in hair

It’s reigned supreme for years, and balayage won’t be going anywhere in 2021. To achieve the low-maintenance look, William says it’s important to make sure your stylist gets placement of colour right. “Make sure the hair colour for women is seamless, and it should naturally become lighter around your face.”

Cut the fringe

In a nod to the flower power vibes of the 70s, a fringe is perfect for providing shape and movement to the face, specifically highlighting the cheekbones. William says a fringe is perfect for those who may want to keep their length and add shape to their face. “It can be a nice subtle change between hair care services that feels fresh and can really elevate a pony tail and up-do. Makes sure to invest in a good-quality round brush!”

Modern mullet

Take your cue from Billie Eilish, the modern mullet is back. Shaggy layers provide a laidback look, perfectly paired with your choice of colour. William says to pair your modern mullet with a bold colour choice. “Think purple and black, or a striking platinum blonde.”

Accessories

Take your accessory game to the next level with scarves, clips and headbands. It’s the perfect way to amp-up hair, and add some fun to your next dinner date. William says it’s important to keep the accessories fresh and modern to achieve the look. “Think gold clips, a geometric scarf or a black leather headband.”

Leave-in treatments

Your cut or colour is only as good as the health of your hair. To ensure the longevity of your cut or colour, add a mask to your salon hair care regime once to twice a week. William says to look for a mask that’s hydrating and protects against breakage. “I specifically love the System Professional Repair Mask that delivers results that returns your hair to its most virgin-like stage.”
