More about Laura…
Originally from Birmingham in the UK, my first steps out of a career in High School teaching and into the hair industry came in 2017 when I retrained as a barber and men’s hairdresser. I worked in the barber space in Brisbane until I started at Ella&Jade in 2020 where I completed my formal apprenticeship 18 months later.
In 2023 I finalised in the top 6 worldwide for Men’s Hairdresser of the Year for the Goldwell Global Creative Awards, winning myself a trip to Chicago. This year I’m back using my teacher skills again to educate our team on all things men’s hair and short hair, on a pathway to more internal and external hair educating opportunities.
These days I call myself the ‘OG’ of Woolloongabba having been here from the very first day of opening, offering a familiar face to all the clients walking through our doors.
Why hairdressing?
First and foremost for me, the hair industry will always be about people. I love building relationships with clients. With an insight into their lives it enables us to be creative in personalising their hair to fit their lifestyle and personality. I love the idea of creating a community through hair.
Why Ella&Jade?
With an ethos of ‘every human, every hair’ Ella&Jade continues to embrace us all as individual stylists. The hair salon in Woolloongabba has created an amazing platform for all of us stylists to attract the clientele that suits us. No two days are ever the same, one appointment I might be creating a long blonde balayage but the next client might be a shaggy mullet or a precision bob!
What aspect of hair are you most interested in and why?
These days you can find me in salon as the go to for big cutting transformations and quirky trims such as shags, mullets, all things short and all things curly! Men’s hair is still something I’m still crazily passionate about having created a known space at Ella&Jade for guys with long and mid length hair specifically. Colour-wise I love dimensional bronde and blondes along with freehand painting for super natural, low maintenance lived in results that compliment the style of cutting I love to do!
Beyond the salon:
Everyone who knows me knows I'm active. Mostly I can be found running the trails around SE QLD and generally adventuring and working out. Not before coffee though. Coffee is life.
