How to keep your hair super shiny long after you leave the salon

Much like your nightly skincare routine, your hair also needs a regular routine to keep it in tiptop condition. Ella & Jade stylists share their secrets and favourite products to get mileage out of your colour.

Step 1. Implement a home haircare routine

It’s vital you use the right shampoo, conditioner and treatment for your hair type and colour. The health and colour of your hair can be affected by tap water, UV rays, heat damage, sulphates and silicons found in supermarket hair care products. Add a good-quality hair mask and great conditioner to your self-love Sunday routine and your hair will love you for it.

Step 2. Say NO to silicon

Silicon is found in cheap hair care products that usually make your hair feel extremely soft. Don’t fall for it! Silicon will build up around the outside of the hairs cuticle which can result in a chemical reaction when colouring.

Step 3. Blonde babes, put down the purple shampoo

Purple shampoo is not for every wash and designed to be used in conjunction with your everyday shampoo. If over-used, the tone can build up on the hair making it appear dull, lifeless and sometimes a murky purple colour.

Step 4. Redheads, invest in a toner

If you’re a fiery redhead or sunrise copper, speak to your stylist about customising a take home toner to keep that colour bright and shiny in between your visits.

Step 5. Balayage needs to hydrate

Dry ends can affect balayage and lived-in blondes. We recommend a toner in between visits followed by a treatment and blow dry. This is the perfect trick to keeping your colour looking perfect, and to get maximum longevity in between your full colour appointments.
